Vela

Vela is a 164-foot (50m) luxury phinisi launched in 2022, conceived by the eco-minded hoteliers behind Nirjhara, as a floating extension of their resort in. Designed by naval architect Tresno Seery, son of the woman who pioneered the luxury phinisi charter, she carries one of the tallest riggings and largest sail surfaces of any phinisi, nearly 7,000 square feet of sail, making her a real sailing boat.

Accommodating up to 12 guests in six cabins, Vela breaks from the rustic phinisi mould with bright, contemporary interiors: headboards in Hermes and Dedar Milano fabrics, Balinese ceramics from Gaya, bathroom fittings by Philippe Starck. Two master suites sit above deck, a rare layout, including a 430-square-foot owner's suite with private terrace and near 360-degree views.

Her hotelier owners oversee every charter personally, and the crew is drawn from Indonesia's finest, several trained for decades at Aman properties. Built to Mediterranean superyacht standards yet unmistakably Indonesian, Vela suits discerning travellers who want barefoot luxury without compromise.
